This summer, while the marriage of my husband and I entered its 33rd year, we travelled to the valleys of Hunza and Ghizer in the north of Pakistan tracing its valleys and mountain paths; forming everlasting memories and timeless portraits for us to reflect upon; the love for each other- rejuvenating!
Escaping the hectic routine we finally entered Hunza Valley, greeted by the towering Karakoram Range, against the back drop of which lush green glades were scattered. We were placed at our lodge, a small, cozy inn situated on a hill overlooking the Hunza River, which snaked beautifully through the valley.
Each morning, we woke to the melodious chirping of birds and the aroma of freshly brewed Hunza tea, savoring moments of quietude and togetherness on our private balcony.
Days were spent exploring ancient forts and charming villages nestled against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. We wandered hand in hand through the terraced fields of cherry and apricot orchards, the fruit-laden branches casting dappled shadows under the warm Hunza sun. In Karimabad, the historic Baltit Fort stood proudly, its ancient stones whispering tales of bygone eras as we marveled at the intricate woodwork and panoramic views of the valley below.
Evenings were a symphony of starlit skies and flickering bonfires, where we shared stories and dreams beneath a blanket of twinkling constellations. The Hunza people welcomed us with open arms, their warmth and hospitality adding a touch of magic to our journey. We indulged in traditional Hunza cuisine, savoring hearty meals of chapshuro, apricot-stuffed dumplings, and freshly baked bread, each bite a culinary delight infused with local flavors and love.
From Hunza, our adventure led us to the serene Ghizer Valley, a hidden gem known for its pristine lakes and lush greenery. In Phandar, we discovered the tranquil shores of Phandar Lake, where shades of azure melted into the distant mountains, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. We hiked along winding trails, hand in hand, pausing to admire waterfalls cascading down moss-covered rocks and the delicate blooms of wildflowers that carpeted the meadows.
In the village of Gupis, we found solace in the simplicity of life, the rhythm of our footsteps echoing through ancient streets lined with traditional wooden houses. We embraced the slower pace, immersing ourselves in the timeless charm of Ghizer's landscapes and the genuine warmth of its people.
As we reluctantly bid farewell to Hunza and Ghizer, we carried with us not just memories of breathtaking vistas and cultural treasures, but a renewed sense of wonder and deepened connection forged through shared experiences. Our romantic journey had rekindled the spark of love that had guided us through 33 years of laughter, challenges, and cherished moments. In the heart of Northern Pakistan, amidst towering mountains and whispering rivers, we had found a timeless sanctuary where love blossomed anew, painting our story with the hues of an unforgettable adventure.
